Parents & Kids Comments

“The Running Club has brought great joy to a lot of families that would otherwise have never run … including my girls!!! My youngest daughter, Izzy cried the first time and wanted me to carry her saying her heart hurt, her legs hurt, her brain hurt … to now, she gets agitated if we are running late as she can’t miss it!  My eldest daughter (Molly) is not a runner but she comes down anyway to help encourage the little ones (equally as important).  And my boys, you know Bill – he LOVES IT!!  And Harry is a once a week guy happy to stretch his legs for the social side of it. I love how it’s not timed or placed as there is too much pressure on our kids in life now and this club is not one of those pressures.  I am just sorry I can’t make both days but in a way, happy because my mum gets her fitness too and she loves it!  Honestly, it is one of the most positive experiences that some kids will have at school and that is amazing and it is all your doing.  Congratulations!    from Terri Corderoy (Parent)

“I like Running Club because it is a fantastic way for kids to keep fit and seeing hundreds of kids giving up their early mornings to run with their friends”   from Bill Corderoy

“What does it feel like to run first thing in the morning on the way to school?  Great!  I am the mother of a highly energetic boy and with 6 months Running Club up my sleeve I am only now able to keep up.  I start my day with a cup of tea get ready for school have a 20 – 30 minute run through the bush then home, showered and ready for the day by 9am.  It’s motivating, it makes me make healthy choices and it makes me happy.  Some days I help those runners that are finding it a little hard or those needing a joke to keep them moving.  Personally for me and my 9 year old it has helped us through a hard year of grief and despair.  To get our runners on and run out our fears and sadness helps us through another day.  So why would you say no to trying out a great way to start your day, being outdoors and putting you in a positive head space?  Yeah for running club”  from Samantha (Parent) and Jack Birchall

“Running Club allows kids like me to run in the bush, have fun and get fit.  I always look forward to it and it’s a great thing to do with my friends”    from Ashlee Jowett

“I have had two children at North Beach Primary.  My son, Luca McRobert, is now at Hale and was the School Captain last year. Luca is a keen triathlete, which was no doubt inspired by his time at Running Club.  My youngest daughter, Mila, was asthmatic and did not consider herself a runner. When she started she would often finish at the back of the pack.  We decided Running Club might be the answer. The inclusive and positive environment inspired Mila to have a go – and she ended up representing her School in Inter-School Cross country. Her overall attitude, well-being and academic achievement also benefited with the confidence she gained at Running Club.  Caron has been an inspiration to all of us for Running Club – she is passionate about it and that is infectious for everyone.  I think Running Club would benefit most kids in Western Australia – I can’t speak highly enough about it.”  From Shaun McRoberts (Parent)

“Exercise in the morning, there is nothing like it!  You can do all that in Running Club at 8am on Tuesdays and Thursdays”   from Logan Montgomery

“I love Running Club because I can run with my dad and he has to run fast to catch me.  I like to look at the birds and trees as well”   from Emily Jowett

“My daughter, Lara, and son, Carlton, have both participated in the North Beach Primary School Running Club since it began. It’s been wonderful to observe the sheer enjoyment they get out of running with their friends and to notice the improvement they’ve both made to their fitness and energy levels. In particular, my son Carlton’s steady improvement through Running Club saw him make the Inter-school cross country competition and he placed third! Competition aside, though, it’s really the fun and camaraderie that makes Running Club something the kids are happy to wake up early for. I’ve also loved joining in with them sometimes as a parent and having a laugh with other parents along the way. I’ve even dragged my teenager along a few times and she loved it. There are no exclusions to taking part – it’s just so welcoming and unpretentious and enjoyable. It’s incredible to think that something so simple – and FREE! – can achieve so much for children, families and a community.” from Carrie Cox (Parent)

“I love Running Club because Caitlin Bassett came to our school and spoke with us.  She inspired me to keep running for fun and fitness. I also get to run with my friends before school starts”.   from Indiana Montgomery

“I like it because you can do different tracks and play games too” from Jamie MacLeod

Lastly, here is a lovely note I received from a mother after our House Cross Country event.

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all the encouragement you have given to my daughter at Running Club!  She was absolutely delighted to come 4th in the Grade 3 girls cross country, especially since in past years she hasn’t placed at all.  My daughter is beginning to understand that she has to work for something if she wants to achieve, which is a huge revelation.  We have been trying to teach her about taking responsibility for herself –cleaning her room, not blaming others when things go wrong….  All these little achievements are building her confidence and belief in herself that she CAN do it!  Thank you for always encouraging the kids (and parents!) to have a go! A good attitude is worth more than any ribbon could ever be!
